Susanna Reid congratulates ex GMB colleague Piers Morgan as he lands new TV job

Piers Morgan dramatically quit Good Morning Britain after clashing with his presenting colleagues over his comments on Meghan Markle – but is now set to make a big TV comeback

Piers has joked Susanna is his onscreen wife

Susanna Reid has congratulated her former Good Morning co-host Piers Morgan after he announced he had landed a big new TV job.

The outspoken TV star dramatically quit ITV’s GMB and stormed off set after refusing to apologise for his comments about Meghan Markle.

But today he announced he was making a big TV comeback as the host of a brand new global TV show which will air in the UK, US and Australia.

Announcing the move, the TV presenter promised viewers: “We’re going to have some fun.”

“I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged,” he added.

Susanna, who Piers has jokingly referred to as his onscreen wife, was the first to react to his career news.

The TV presenter posted on Twitter “Congratulations @piersmorgan” followed by a clapping hands emoji.

Last night Susanna and Piers were reunited for the first time since he sensationally quit GMB in March.

Show bosses asked Piers to apologise for comments made about Meghan Markle ’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, which drew over 50,000 complaints – but he refused.

The TV couple hugged as they both attended the TRIC Awards – and Piers invited Susanna on stage to share his win for Best News Presenter.

Accepting his award, Piers said it “felt right to share this with Susanna” – who was up for the same gong.

He continued: “I haven’t seen Susanna since I left so it was very emotional.

“You get very close to someone when you work that closely together. Not many men have seen Susanna Reid at 5am in her curlers.”

Susanna joked back: “He can start an argument in an empty room. I’ve never known anyone get so worked up over a sausage roll.”

Piers split his News Presenter TRIC Award with Susanna

Speaking on Good Morning Britain the next morning, Susanna said of her former colleague: “There was an absolutely lovely moment yesterday where he said, ‘team work makes the dream work’.

“But it’s down to you because no one held politicians to account like you did during the pandemic, so congratulations Piers.”

Piers son Spencer, who works as a sports journalist at the Mail, was also quick to congratulate his father, writing on Instagram: “The comeback is greater than the setback.”

While News channel rivals GB News tweeted: “Congratulations to @piersmorgan We love competition. Bring it on!”
