Super Smash Bros. Banjo-Kazooie amiibo reveal, Minecraft release date next week

Three new amiibo based on the first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass, including Banjo-Kazooie, will release some time next year.

Over the weekend, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai provided a full breakdown on the new DLC character, Steve from Minecraft.

While that was the primary focus of the presentation, Sakurai had some news for amiibo collectors as well.

Namely, three more amiibo based on the remaining characters from the first Fighters Pass are in development and will release at some point in 2021.

Those three are Banjo and Kazooie, Terry Bogard, and Byleth. As Sakurai himself admits, it’s rather surreal to see a Banjo figure being made by Nintendo, considering the character is a Microsoft property.

One unfortunate detail is that only the male version of Byleth will be receiving an amiibo, with Sakurai simply saying ‘… we’re only able to create the P1 fighter amiibo.’ Which is presumably a result of the character’s relative lack of popularity.

The Joker and Hero amiibos are currently available for purchase now, which only leaves amiibo for the incomplete Fighters Pass 2, though if those get made, they probably won’t be available for a while yet.

Sakurai also joked that if an amiibo for Steve is made, it’d probably be the easiest one to manufacture given his incredibly simple design.

Speaking of Steve, though fans had to wait months for his announcement, he and the rest of the Minecraft content will be available very soon.

Specifically, it will release next Wednesday on October 14. Those who have already bought Fighters Pass 2 will automatically receive the character, stage, music, and spirit board updates.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
