Strictly Come Dancing ‘s Amy Dowden was rushed to hospital in ambulance after falling ill.

The professional dancer, 31, pulled out of the weekend’s show at the last minute after an ‘unexpected Crohn’s’ flare up.’

Amy revealed she has been cared for by Strictly celebs Tom Fletcher and Sara Davies, who stepped in while her husband Ben Jones was working away from home.

Sara said she and Tom watched in tears as a poorly Amy was taken to hospital in the back of an ambulance.

McFly’s Tom and his wife Giovanna Fletcher then let Amy move into their house temporarily as she recovered from the health scare.

Amy spoke out about her ordeal after concerned fans noticed that she wasn’t on Saturday night’s live show.

The Welsh dancer had been eliminated with partner Tom the week before, but the show’s professionals are still expected to appear in the audience every week and to take take part in the group dances on Sunday’s results show.

Confirming suspicion that she was absent over the weekend, Amy posted to Instagram : “Thanks for the all messages over the weekend.

“Unfortunately, I was missing from the show as I had an unexpected Crohn’s flare up and hospital admission in which I received unbelievable care.

“I’m recovering very well and certainly being well looked after and look forward to returning to the dance floor. Big thanks to lovely @saradaviescc and @tomfletcher for taking care of me (of all the days to be poorly, Ben was in Blackpool with the dance school).

“To the Fletchers who made sure I had everything and more at the hospital, have brought me back to theirs where the whole family are giving me all the love, care, burnt toast (Tom), unlimited supply of @mrsgifletcher clothes along with @tomfletcher sock choice you could possibly need, lots of drawings and pretend injections from my new doctors Buzz, Buddy and Max.

“Thank you, they really were sent to me,’ she finished up the post.

The star was inundated with messages of supported from her co-stars at the BBC dance show.

Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima both replied with a series of love hearts.

Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies told Amy: “Omg you’re looking so much better than when i last saw you as we closed the doors on the ambulance as they carted you off on Friday night and me and Tom were just watching them drive off into the night with tears in our eyes!”

Dianne Buswell also told Amy “Love you so much.”

Amy has been open about her battle with Crohn’s disease, sharing her story in a TV documentary last year where she revealed she has been hospitalised more than 100 times.

The condition causes inflammation and ulcers in the digestive system and can be potentially deadly.

“Dancing has pulled me through my Crohn’s but it’s a battle. I live in fear that what I love the most could be taken away.

“And I’ve been more ill this year than I have been in a long time,” Amy told.
