Stacey Dooley was 'not asked to stay' as Glow Up host after fronting ad campaign


Stacey Dooley was reportedly “sacked” by the BBC as the host of Glow Up after she fronted a hair product ad campaign.

The Strictly Come Dancing winner was said to have shown a clear disregard for the rules after taking part in the campaign for Clairol.

The ads saw the 34-year-old jump around in a leotard with her hair freshly dyed.

But chiefs at the Beeb thought that the scenes were too similar to the format of the BBC Three show Glow Up, which sees make-up artists take part in challenges in a bid to showcase their skills.

According to BBC rules, any actors or artists contracted to them can not appear in any adverts that “mimic or replicate their on-air roles for the BBC”.

Stacey’s time on the show came to a quiet end after she was seamlessly replaced after two series.

Maya Jama, 26, took up the role in her place.

A source from the BBC told The Sun : “Stacey might have made it sound like she was stepping away from the series of her own volition, but in reality she was not asked to stay because the BBC were furious about Clairol.

“They are sick of people using their platform to go off and earn private money.

“It was a tricky situation as she does other things for the BBC, but they decided she would lose her Glow Up contract.”

The source revealed that the final decision was to remove Stacey from the Glow Up show, but allow her to continue her other projects.

The revelation comes after last month’s news that Nick Knowles had overstepped the mark with his participation in a Shreddies campaign.

The DIY SOS star was said to be involved in crisis talks with the broadcaster after an advert in which he played a builder.

It was later revealed that the 58-year-old would keep his job as the presenter of the show despite reportedly “breaking rules” by appearing in the advert.

At the time Nick said: “I have always said that DIY SOS is more than just a presenting job for me, it’s part of me.

“It has my heart and working for the BBC for over 22 years is something I have never taken for granted.”
