Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela have taken to social media to apologise for breaking Covid-19 regulations at a party on Christmas Day.

Both stars were snapped in a photograph shared to social media of 18 people together, which also included Spurs team-mate Sergio Reguilon and West Ham forward Manuel Lanzini.

With London in Tier 4, the group were clearly breaking coronavirus rules as mixing with other households indoors is not permitted.

Lanzini had already apologised for his actions, while West Ham and Spurs had both released statements condemning their players.

And Lamela and Lo Celso posted apologetic statements on social media.

‘I want to apologise to everyone,’ Lo Celso wrote in a statement on Twitter.

‘I understand the great sacrifices people are making to keep themselves and loved ones safe and the frustration you have expressed to me is justified.

‘I take responsibility for my actions, which I genuinely regret.

‘I also wish to express my gratitude to all those working so hard to keep us all safe and will do everything I can to set a better example in future.’

Lamela also apologised in a separate statement.

‘I want to apologise for a decision I made over Christmas which I deeply regret,’ posted the Argentine winger.

‘On reflection I understand the seriousness of my actions and the impact it has on others.

‘I am truly thankful to everyone working hard to keep us safe and I feel ashamed knowing I’ve let people down.’
