1. De Ligt joins Juve
Italian champions Juventus have signed Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax in a deal worth £67.5m.
The 19-year-old defender captained Ajax to the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League and was linked with the majority of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
Netherlands international De Ligt has signed a five-year deal with the Turin club. In a statement Juve said: “It’s the news all Bianconeri fans have been waiting to hear all summer: Matthijs de Ligt is officially a Juventus player! De Ligt is Bianconero. Welkom, Matthijs!”
2. Lando urges Lewis to ‘stick around’
McLaren ace Lando Norris has urged five-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to “stick around” so they can race head-to-head on the Formula 1 track. The 19-year-old, who is in his rookie season in F1, says it will be another couple of years before McLaren can take on Mercedes at the front of the grid. Norris told Sky Sports: “That’s something I would like, to be able to fight against Lewis. A five-time world champion, possibly six this year. But it’s a good two years before we’re having a chance to fight them. I’m sure he’s probably going to stick around, especially when he’s got chances of winning championships and making history. It’s something I would look forward to, being able to race him.”
3. Better late than never for Froome
British cyclist Chris Froome has been named as the official winner of the 2011 Vuelta a Espana after Juan Jose Cobo lost his title because of doping irregularities. Froome, who is currently recovering from a heavy crash, said on Twitter: “Better late than never! The 2011 Vuelta hopes some very special memories for me.”
4. City players to choose skipper
The next captain of Manchester City will chosen by the players, head coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed. Previous skipper Vincent Kompany left the Premier League champions at the end of last season. Guardiola said: “They will choose the captain when we are all together. After they are all back [they are] going to make a meeting and decide who is going to be captain.”
5. Roy in England Test squad
Cricket World Cup star Jason Roy has been selected in England’s Test squad for the first time. England face Ireland next week at Lord’s and Roy has been named in the squad for the Test match and also the pre-Ashes camp.

6. Ruiz-Joshua rematch set for New York or Cardiff
The heavyweight boxing rematch between Mexico’s Andy Ruiz Jr and Britain’s Anthony Joshua looks likely to be held in either New York in November or Cardiff in December. Ruiz stunned Joshua in New York on 1 June to claim the IBF, WBA and WBO world titles.
7. Neymar to Old Trafford?
Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar is again linked with a sensational move to Manchester United. According to The Sun, which cites Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian is desperate to leave PSG and has reportedly “opened the door” on a switch to Old Trafford.
8. The Open tees off at Royal Portrush
The 148th Open Championship has started this morning at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Home player Rory McIlroy is one of the favourites to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday, but after four holes he was five-over par.
9. Fans slam Huddersfield’s new kit
Huddersfield Town are facing the wrath of the Football Association as well as that of their own fans after unveiling their “horrendous” new kit – with sponsor Paddy Power’s name running diagonally across the front of the shirt, like a sash worn by a beauty queen.
10. Toon fans want #BruceOut – after one day
Steve Bruce has only spent one day as Newcastle United’s new manager but already it’s turning into a nightmare. Newcastle fans have protested Bruce’s arrival and according to The Sun it’s turning into a “wor zone” on Tyneside.
