Son Heung-min has issued an apology to Tottenham supporters following their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

Son, who was heavily criticised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his role in United’s disallowed goal, opened the scoring for Spurs in the first half.

But a strong second-half display by United saw Solskjaer’s side pull level through Fred before goals from Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood sealed the 3-1 win.

The defeat has put a further dent in Spurs’ hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League, with Jose Mourinho’s side now six points behind fourth-placed West Ham.

And after Spurs’ loss, a visibly upset Son apologised to fans for the result.

‘I’m really disappointed this afternoon. I really don’t know what to say,’ Son told Spurs TV.

‘I’m really sorry about it and feel bad.

‘I know those supporting us are really disappointed, I think they are more disappointed than us so I feel really bad and really, really sorry about it. It’s a really sad afternoon.

‘I really, really wanted to win, I really do.

‘I know it’s always easy to say, ‘let’s be positive, we will do our best.’ I really want to finish well this season, I really do.

‘Six points behind the top four, we have to get results and wait for the other teams to drop points.

‘We have to do our best and we have to take big, big responsibility for the results.’
