Some PS5 and Xbox Series X pre-orders ‘won’t arrive on launch day’

Retailers have begun warning customers that they may not get their PS5 or Xbox Series X pre-orders on time – and some have to wait till 2021.

Pre-orders for the next generation of consoles hasn’t exactly been a smooth process, with both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 selling out almost immediately.

And now some customers who were fortunate enough to land a pre-order are being informed that they might not even get their new console on launch day.

Amazon has reportedly sent emails informing customers who have pre-ordered either console about this, citing ‘high demand’ as the reason.

According to VGC, UK retailer ShopTo has said the same about its PS5 pre-orders, writing: ‘We have received the allocation details from Sony and, unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to fulfil your pre-order on day one/release date.’

However, ShopTo does advise that customers don’t cancel their pre-orders, in the event that someone else does cancel or Sony makes additional stock available.

Meanwhile, those who pre-ordered a PS5 via GameStop Ireland have been told that they won’t be receiving their pre-orders until 2021.

Multiple people passed this news on to VGC, with GameStop Ireland only saying this is ‘due to circumstances out of our control.’

While this doesn’t mean those who pre-ordered have had their orders cancelled, the whole point of pre-ordering the consoles was to have them on launch day and there’s no indication of roughly how much longer some customers will have to wait.

Microsoft has stated that pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will become available again in November.

In fact, at the time of writing, the Xbox Series S is still in stock at a few UK retailers, such as GAME, Argos, and Smyths.

As for the PS5, Sony has apologised for the disastrous initial pre-orders, which became available with no warning despite Sony saying it wouldn’t do that, and promised more pre-orders in the future.

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will release on November 10. The PlayStation 5 will release in the UK on November 19.
