Solskjaer offers Martial injury update ahead of Liverpool vs Man Utd

Anthony Martial will be given every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Liverpool on Sunday.

Martial suffered a hamstring issue towards the end of United’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Tuesday, which took them three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table.

But the striker is struggling to be fit for United’s biggest game of the season at Anfield, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said a full assessment of Martial’s availability will not take place until tomorrow.

“Well, I think we have as many injuries as them, it’s just how football is,” said Solskjaer.

“You get injuries and that’s part and parcel of the game and I’ll give everyone until tomorrow to prove their fitness to get to go to that game.

“We had a couple of knocks at Burnley that I’m not sure about.

“But I’m going to give everyone another day. Anthony is not out of it, the only ones certainly out are Brandon Williams and Phil Jones, they’re the two that definitely can’t make the game.

“A couple of others, maybe there are doubts, but we’re hoping, fingers crossed.”

Martial has endured a mixed campaign and has only scored twice in the Premier League, but he has started five of United’s last six top-flight games.

If the Frenchman is unable to feature against the champions, Red Devils boss Solskjaer faces a selection dilemma concerning his forward line.

Edinson Cavani would likely continue to lead the line, while Mason Greenwood or Daniel James could be brought in on the wing in place of Martial.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have been two of United’s standout performers this campaign and would expect to continue at No.10 and on the flank respectively.

If he’s fit, should Anthony Martial start on the wing or up front for Manchester United? Have your say in the comments.
