Sky broadband down as hundreds of Scots users complain of outage

Broadband provider Sky has apologised after Scots in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow are amongst those areas affected by a loss of connection this morning.

Although the vast majority of reported cases have come from Norfolk and Suffolk down south, some in Scotland were suffering from the broadband outage as they unsuccessfully tried to work from home.

The Downdetector website detailed the areas affected as they received reports that began to spike from 6am.

By 8am the website had more than 1,000 complaints by 8am.

Sky has said the issue is affecting customers in Norfolk and Suffolk although the interactive map suggests some issues have travelled to Scotland.

One Norwich user wrote: “Now been told by Sky ‘major output’ in our area affecting a lot of customers, Sky and other providers.

“Openreach are working on the issues now. Should be back up ASAP (usually 2-3 hours) but could be up to 48hours with such a major output.”

Website Istheservicedown also showed a spike in complaints between 6am and 7am on Wednesday.

The outage comes as many Brits are now working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Twitter one wrote: “It’s not helpful when people have to work from home and rely on sky.”

Another person said: “”We are a Sky customer but they informed me that it was an Openreach issue that has stopped the service
