Silent Hill rumours shot down by Konami: ‘they are not true’

Despite what seemed like mounting evidence, Konami US has denied recent rumours about two new Silent Hill games.

A terrible thing happened to Silent Hill fans recently: for the first time in years they were given genuine hope of not one but two new games, and one from no less than Hideo Kojima.

The rumours had multiple sources and even some circumstantial evidence to back them up, but there’s one little problem: they’re not true.

Or at least that’s what an unnamed PR rep from Konami US has told website Rely on Horror, which was one of the main sources for many of the rumours.

‘We’re aware of all the rumours and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear,’ said the PR rep.

‘It’s not to say we are completely closing the door on the franchise, just not in the way it is being reported’, added the rep.

The most recent version of the rumours had suggested that the first game was a reboot in a similar style to the originals, worked on by many of the original team – many of who now work at Sony.

Sony was allegedly interested in acquiring the whole franchise and had apparently talked Hideo Kojima into reengaging with the series with some sort of episodic title (a return to his Silent Hills project was never on the cards).

One of the main reasons the stories were believed was that Konami responded to the initial rumours by admitting that it is, ‘considering ways to provide the next title’ in the series.

On top of that, Hideo Kojima seemed to be hinting at a new game reveal and talk of him working with Norman Reedus again all seemed to point in the direction of Silent Hill. But, alas, it all seems to have come to nothing.

The only faint spark of hope is that a random PR person in America might not necessarily know all of Konami’s most secret plans, especially as the rumours suggested everything was being done in Japan.

For its part, Rely on Horror is standing by its sources and so to is respected Twitter rumourmonger AestheticGamer, who was also involved in the early rumours.

That at least leaves something for fans to cling onto, even if the official answer at the moment is not what they want to hear.
