Shelley Helps Opals to Asia Cup Win – University of Nebraska –

Nebraska guard Jaz Shelley put together an efficient opening-game effort to help the Australian National Team to a 76-65 victory over Chinese Taipei in the opening game of Group B pool play at the 2021 Asia Cup in Amman, Jordan on Monday.

Shelley, a 5-9 sophomore guard from Moe, Australia, scored six points while adding one rebound, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in just under 15 minutes off the bench for the Opals. Shelley, who arrived in Jordan late last week to join her Opal teammates, went 2-for-4 from the field with a pair of three-pointers.

In a close game at the half, Australia surged down the stretch to pull away from Chinese Taipei in the fourth quarter. Shelley produced Australia’s best plus-minus (+14) while she was on the floor in the 11-point victory.

Shelley and Australia will be back in action on Tuesday against the Philippines at 10:50 a.m. (CT). A live stream of the game is available to subscribers of ESPN+.
