Chris Wilder’s team are six points behind 19th-placed West Brom, who yesterday defeated Brighton 1-0, and 15 points off safety as things stand. The Blades have lost their last three in the top flight, but remarkably that run is slightly better than Liverpool’s. Jurgen Klopp’s players have lost four in a row in the Premier League now, with their last outing seeing the Reds fall to a 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat at home to rivals Everton. As such, Liverpool sit sixth in the standings, 22 points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.
JURGEN KLOPP SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
“We have to change the gameplan because it’s a different game today, but we had four sessions to train [with new centre-back pairing]. First and foremost we have to defend Sheffield United. In all the moments when they get the ball they make the pitch big. These kind of things we have to consider.”

CHRIS WILDER SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
“It’s still Liverpool and it’s Sheffield United not in the best of form. It’s a huge challenge ahead of us but one we should be enjoying. My team has had the right attitude right the way through. We understand the situation and where we are. We’ve had a few games against the champions, one here which was pretty tight, one at their place where they outplayed us, and another one here earlier this season that was pretty tight.”

SHEFFIELD UNITED VS LIVERPOOL
Over to Bramall Lane now, where Liverpool desperately need a win to end a run of four successive defeats and make ground on the top four.
Jurgen Klopp has made a couple of changes, bringing in goalkeeper Adrian for Alisson, who’s absent on compassionate leave after the death of his father. Nat Phillips starts at centre-back after Jordan Henderson’s injury.
For Sheffield United, Oliver Norwood and David McGoldrick return to the starting XI following defeat at Fulham last time out.

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
“[Asked if United should have had a penalty] Yep, 100%. [Can he understand why it wasn’t given?] No, not whatsoever. Not at all. Especially when they stop it and they walk across and watch it. It’s taken two points away from us. I don’t want to cause controversy. It’s not right is it. It’s all the outside influences. There’s loads of talk about us getting penalties when there’s no doubt whatsoever, but we should have had a penalty. Defensively, energy, application, pressing: spot on. With the ball, not good enough. We didn’t create the chances we wanted to. If we score on that breakaway at the end or get the penalty it’s a perfect performance. Towards the end you’re pushing players for, you want to get that winning goal. Clean sheet is always the foundation, but we haven’t found the goal and that’s what we need to find.”

THOMAS TUCHEL SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
“We were not good enough in the first half to attack the space. They started with high pressing and we lost a bit of confidence with some ball losses. We said at half-time “don’t worry”, we changed the structure. We dominated the second half and were close to winning. [On penalty controversy] How can this be an intervention, the red player hits the ball with his hand so why do we have to check this? I saw it on the iPad. Why does the referee have to check it? We take what we got, there’s no other solution. A good performance defensive wise, character wise. From mentality I’m absolutely happy. Against a team like Man United you don’t get many chances. We are not in that moment yet we are clinical enough. I’m happy; if we go on like this we’re a difficult team to play against.”

LUKE SHAW SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
“An evenly-matched game, not too many chances. We were both quite safe, maybe they had a bit more possession. We defended well, but I don’t think we created too many chances. We needed to win because the gap’s getting bigger but we didn’t. We need to keep pushing because we know the gap’s big. We take a point, they’re a very good team. We’ve got another big game against Crystal Palace this week. [On penalty incident] At the time, I saw a handball, I didn’t know if it was Mason [Greenwood] or Callum [Hudson-Odoi]. I don’t know why they stopped it if it’s not going to be a pen. H [Maguire] said he got told it was a pen, so I don’t know what’s gone on. It’s confusing with this VAR. I’m not gonna moan out because I don’t think either team did enough to win.”
