The car leasing experts at and its sister site have advised drivers on the best ways to turn a driveway into an earner.

Whether it be for work, or for days out to sports events or concerts, renting a driveway for the day can be much easier than finding a space in a city or town car park.

Below are seven tips from on how to do this most effectively:

Planning permission

In England, the Government states that users do not need planning permission.

This makes things easier for people looking to take advantage of their space but who are not sure about the logistics behind doing it.

Whilst users can find suitors anywhere within reason, the most effective locations are of course generally in cities, or in locations with high traffic such as near points of interest or travel hubs.

JustPark is one of the biggest sites for users to advertise their parking spaces in the UK and is very simple to use.

It is free to sign up and register your parking space, and JustPark will notify you when you receive a booking, for which you can then earn the money agreed with the purchaser.

Residents could also advertise the old-fashioned way, by putting adverts in the local newspaper or by sending out flyers to put around town, especially if they live in a town with fairly high footfall and traffic, it will be seen by plenty of people.

The main bonus to this helpful income stream is that the user decides entirely when and how they go about taking advantage of it.

If the user has some dates that they know they will not have their car for, for example, then they can know exactly when to rent out their space and know that they will be making money without doing anything extra.

A contract is important

Make sure to have a written agreement in advance that states that the owner of the space is not liable for damage incurred to the user’s vehicle, which could otherwise lead to extensive costs or legal problems.

Trickier if renting

If you are a student for example and are renting, it is very important to check with your landlord whether they are ok with this arrangement, if they are then this is a good way for students to earn money on the side, as they will likely not have a car with them.
