Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon has cheekily claimed he is trying to convince Sergio Ramos to join him in north London, though expects the Real Madrid skipper to remain at the Bernabeu.

The 34-year-old is out of contract next summer and talks over a renewal have hit an impasse, with the Evening Standard claiming Jose Mourinho is monitoring the situation and would like to lure former charge Ramos to Spurs.

Reguilon made the same switch from Madrid to Tottenham over the summer in a £28million deal and he would jump at the chance to be reunited with his old skipper, though he is convinced the contract dispute will be settled.

He told Spanish newspaper AS: ‘I think it will work out eventually. For Madrid and Sergio. Seen from the outside, I don’t see a Madrid without Ramos.

‘If I can try to convince him to come to Tottenham? He didn’t listen to me much! [laughs]

‘Of course, yes. In fact, I already spoke to him the other day…’

Reguilon has settled in quickly at Spurs and is enjoying playing under Mourinho, revealing the efforts the Portuguese coach has made to make his adaptation easier.

He continued: ‘I could tell a thousand wonderful stories about Mourinho.

‘On Christmas Day, for example, he knew I was alone. We arrived to train on the 25th at 3pm and I had a box in my place. I opened it and inside was a suckling pig, already cooked.

‘He told me: “I know you’re alone at Christmas, so you don’t have to cook dinner and you can eat well.” He pays attention to details that most people wouldn’t know on a day-to-day basis.

‘To be so aware of what’s going on in a footballer’s life off the pitch is important.’
