Separatist Sikh group draws more scrutiny

Referendum 2020, an international campaign to “liberate Punjab from Indian occupation”, has lately acquired a growing public profile, prompting greater scrutiny from India’s law-enforcement agencies.

On July 10, the Indian government outlawed Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), the group that has been leading the referendum campaign. The group was also highlighted in a dossier that India handed to Pakistan on July 13, reiterating its accusations of the support its western neighbour has lent the wider Khalistani movement, of which the referendum is a part.
