Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has applauded the Oniru of Iruland, Oba AbdulWasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, over his development policies in Iruland.

The governor spoke during the Interfaith Session yesterday – one of the activities of a weeklong first Coronation Anniversary of the monarch at the palace, Victoria Island.

Sanwo-Olu, who admitted that more infrastructural and economic development had taken place in Iruland under Oba Lawal’s one year reign, said more roads and other infrastructure would be executed in the axis.

He pledged his administration’s commitment to the full implementation of Iru-Victoria Island and Lagos Master Plan, saying that the axis is too critical to the economic prosperity of the state.

Sanwo-Olu urged Oniru to partner with the government in the area of urban and regional regeneration of the Iruland.

This, he said, was in order to expedite the actualisation of the Greater Lagos agenda.

He congratulated the people of Iruland for having a monarch, who is internationally acknowledged as a cerebral scholar.

The kingdom, he said, would witness more transformation and developments.

He said: “I know very well that his wealth of experience will bring about positive economic development into Iruland.   How I wish that they have more lands, how I wish they can extend into the Atlantic so that they can create a bigger kingdom for his people. Even within what he has, I know that he will transform this place into an enviable location that all of us in Lagos and Nigeria will truly be proud of.”

The National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, Sheikh AbdulRahman Ahmad urged Oba Lawal to always make himself accessible to his subjects in order to endear himself to them.

The monarch, Sheikh Ahmad said, would make more impact on the lives of the people of the Iruland, if they have access to him.

Pastor of Trinity House church Ituah Ighodalo, urged the monarch to be humble.

According to him, humility was required to rule over humanity.

Oba Lawal thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support, adding “you’re one in a kind.”

He appreciated Oba Riliwan Akiolu for his fatherly love, stating that his wise counsel in the past year was instrumental to the discharge of his (Oba Lawal’s) kingly duties.

“The story of my life, career and many exploits will not be complete without acknowledging my mentor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a visionary leader and a die-hard believer in national unity. I will always be grateful for your fatherly support,” he said.

The monarch also eulogised his aged mother.

He thanked the Iru-VI LCDA Chairman Princess Rasheedat Adu, Ojomu of Ajiran Land, Oba Tijani Akinloye; Ojora of Ijora Oba Fatai Aromire; Elegushi of Ikateland Oba Saheed Elegushi, Lagos State Council of Traditional Rulers, members of Iru royal family and the people of Iruland for their supports.

Dignitaries at the event include Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; some members of the state executive council; former Defence Minister (State), Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; former deputy governor of Lagos, Otunba Femi Pedro; Erelu Abiola Dosunmu; Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla; Pastor in Charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Idowu Iluyomade; traditional rulers; captains of industries and chairmen of various local governments in the state.
