It is not often Roy Keane offers an impersonation of anyone, but he did his best Harry Maguire live on television on Saturday, as he accused the Manchester United captain of being ‘like a robot’.

Keane was busy slamming the Manchester United squad’s lack of character and personality after their 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool last weekend.

Maguire came in for serious criticism, as did Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but it was only the former Leicester City centre-back that was mimicked by the Irishman.

The former Red Devils captain accused the current skipper of lacking personality and emotion, while he also said he needs to sort his game out, amid a dip in form of late.

‘What Man United have always had over the years, never mind talented players, they had players with character and personalities,’ Keane told Sky Sports. ‘I don’t see it in this group.

‘I heard Maguire talking during the week, he was like a robot.

‘He was like [adopts English accent]: “Oh, er, apologies to the fans.” There’s no emotion behind it.’

‘And these guys are off the back of good European Championships for England, they’ve turned up before for big matches. Shaw’s fallen back into his old habits from a few years ago.

‘And again, I’m fed up with this chat after the game and apologising.

‘Harry Maguire talking about needing to come together as a group. No. You need to sort your game out. If you’re going to be the leader of that group you need to get the basics right, do your own job.

‘People keep saying he might not be fit. Might not be fit?

‘He gave away a goal against Leicester a few weeks ago, it was nothing to do with fitness. It was a lack of professionalism, not doing his job properly.’

Another former Man Utd star, Paul Parker, called for Maguire to be dropped for the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, such have been his struggles of late.

The England star kept his place, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought in help at centre-back, switching to three in central defence, with Raphael Varane returning from injury to join Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
