Roy Keane has warned Manchester United’s players that they still need to step their game up despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is back wearing United colours after 12 years away from the club, and has started life back in Manchester in brilliant form.

The Portuguese bagged three goals in his first two games but couldn’t stop the Red Devils losing to Young Boys in the Champions League in midweek.

And ex-United captain Keane is wary that not everything will come together just because they have Ronaldo in their ranks.

Manchester United need to be careful,’ Keane told Sky Sports.

‘Just because Ronaldo has come to the club, everyone thinks everything is just going to fall into place.

‘No, the players still need to step it up. But Ronaldo is still a world-class player.’

‘Anything in the box, he [Ronaldo] is the best in the world,’ Keane added.

‘It was no surprise when he produced last week [against Newcastle]. But in midweek [against Young Boys], he struggled upfront without decent support.’

Keane also admitted the loss to Young Boys didn’t come as a great surprise but is insistent that it is too early to draw many conclusions this early in the season.

‘The signs haven’t been great the last few weeks away from home,’ he said. ‘I think away from home against Southampton, they weren’t great and could have lost that.

‘At Wolves, they did get the win, and their performance wasn’t great, so I wasn’t that shocked [with the loss to Young Boys].

‘Everything is exaggerated at United. They beat Newcastle, and everything is great; they lose during the week, it’s a disaster.

‘It’s still early in the season. They’ve got three or four new faces into the club; it takes time to bed in. They’ll be disappointed with the defeat but they’ll bounce back.’
