Roy Keane disagreed with ‘everything’ interim manager Michael Carrick said after Manchester United’s draw with Chelsea in the Premier League.

Jorginho’s penalty earned Chelsea a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, after the Italy Euro 2020 winner gifted Jadon Sancho his first Premier League goal with an error early into the second half.

Carrick was placed in temporary charge of Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking last weekend and said he was ‘proud’ of the team after they held Premier League leaders Chelsea to a draw.

The former England midfielder also claimed Chelsea were fortunate to be awarded a penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva in the box.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the 1-1 draw, Carrick said: ‘I’m disappointed actually. When you are in front in a game like this to have it taken away is disappointing.

‘I’m proud of the players and the group all week. An a difficult situation we tried to make the best of it. But there is that little bitter feeling. We came to win the game. A little disappointed, I can’t lie.

‘I don’t think it was a penalty at all. They have had a lot of shots David had two saves which we knew before the game he would have to make one or two. Other than that I have felt quite comfortable in the game.

‘Of course we want to be better. I am not getting carried away but I thought we defended well. I cannot fault the boys one bit.

‘To come away disappointed and to feel like you have left something out there is a positive.’

Responding to Carrick’s comments, Manchester United legend Keane said: ‘I disagree with everything he said in that interview. Everything he said.

‘He’s talking about a plan, he’s talking about the penalty. Of course it’s a penalty. We’ve all looked at it and it’s a penalty.

‘He’s talking about effort and he’s proud of them. He’s been working with them for months under Ole. All of a sudden he’s proud of them?

‘Why aren’t they making an effort in the other games? He’s praising players for doing their jobs. It’s ridiculous.’

Manchester United endured a dismal run under Solskjaer before he was axed following a 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Carrick was placed in temporary charge of the club and was on the touchline for Tuesday’s Champions League win over Villarreal and Sunday’s Premier League draw with Chelsea.

But Manchester United are expected to appoint German manager Ralf Rangnick on a short-term deal ahead of Thursday’s home match against Arsenal.

David de Gea was brutally honest about United’s struggles under Solskjaer after the Watford defeat and believes the team have ‘already improved’ over the past week.

‘We already improved against Villareal, we won, qualified and now we played a very good team away from home,’ the goalkeeper said.

‘The effort of the team was very good. They had the best chances. For me it is not enough, a draw. We are in a tough moment. I am proud of the effort of the team.

‘The last games before we were conceding three or four goals. We are improving. This is just two games. At least now we are defending well. We are fighting for every ball. We are a team.’
