Roy Keane has criticised Manchester United following their 0-0 draw with Arsenal and believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players are ‘frightened’ of challenging for the Premier League title.

United and Arsenal played out a goalless stalemate at the Emirates Stadium in a game which created few clear-cut chances.

The result has left United second in the table, but they are now three points behind Manchester City who also have a game in hand.

And Keane feels United’s players are lacking the mentality required to push Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race.

‘I’m scratching my head with United really,’ Keane told Sky Sports after the draw with Arsenal.

‘The worry for me watching the today was the lack of belief that they could go and win the game.

‘It’s Man United, you’re looking at Arsenal and they’re missing a few players, I know that doesn’t guarantee to win football matches but the game was there for the taking.

‘Imagine playing for Man United and having a lack of belief that you can go and win a game of football.

‘Overall their performance lacked that intensity. We can make excuses and say they slipped up against Sheffield United, there’s no supporters in stadiums, lots of fixtures. But a real lack of quality from United today and a real lack of conviction and desire to take the game to Arsenal, and they deserved a draw at least.

‘Where they were the last few months they were sneaking up the table, but they got into the good habit of winning football matches even if they weren’t playing great, particularly away from home on the counter attack.

‘But they’ve got to the people and people are saying, ‘can you win the league, can you compete with Man City?’. And it looks as if the players have got a bit frightened of the challenge, as if they’re going, ‘I don’t know if we’re ready for that yet’.

‘That seems to be judging by their last few performances. You can maybe forgive them for the Sheffield United one, that can happen, if you turn up with a bad attitude that is going to happen. But today I’m really scratching my head at this team.

‘You play for Man United, Ole keeps talking about these players, Fernandes, and you’re hearing, ‘they’re winners’, come on then, show us. It is Man United, that’s why you signed for the club in the first place.

‘My worry having watched them today, and I had big question marks about this group of players over the last number of years, but now I’m looking at them, they’ve got into this great position are you ready for it? And it looks like they are frightened of it, you’re playing for Man United, grab it, go for it. They didn’t do it today.’
