Roy Keane slammed Manchester United midfielder Fred after his former side’s 3-1 win against Tottenham, describing the Brazilian’s performance as ‘dreadful’.

United came from a goal down to win in north London, thanks to goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood.

Fred got the ball rolling on the comeback when he smashed home from close range after Hugo Lloris parried out a close-range effort from Cavani.

The dynamic Brazilian earned praise for his tenacity in midfield and his goal was just his second in the Premier League since joining the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £52m deal in 2018.

But Keane was far from impressed with the midfielder, claiming he was ‘dreadful’ in United’s win.

Providing commentary over footage of Fred’s performance for Sky Sports, Keane said: ‘It’s just as well Fred scored because I thought he was dreadful.

‘I don’t know what people are talking about saying that he played well, I thought he was dreadful.

‘It’s good link-up play [for the equaliser], quick play, quick one-two around the box. Fred on the spot, I even thought he was going to miss that. ‘

United’s win means they capitalied on defeats for Manchester City and Leicester City this weekend, moving the Red Devils to within 11 points of Pep Guardiola’s side with a game in hand and seven above the Foxes.

The 3-1 win was the ninth time that United have earned points from behind this term, collecting 28 points from losing positions over the course of the season.

Marcus Rashford was once again taken off with twenty minutes to go, raising doubts over the forward’s fitness for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Granada.
