Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani was seen sharing some words of advice with Mason Greenwood after the teenager’s goal in their 3-2 win over rivals Liverpool in their FA Cup fourth round tie.
Club legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Cavani’s ‘winning mentality’ and experience has been very important to United’s good run of form and fans were delighted to see the veteran striker ‘coaching’ Greenwood.
“Professor Cavani giving Greenwood a movement tutorial directly after Mason’s goal”, wrote one supporter.
“Cavani coaching Greenwood on the pitch and him taking everything on board. Can’t ask for better guidance,” added a second.
Speaking after the win over Liverpool, Ferdinand outlined Cavani’s importance to United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently on a 14-game unbeaten run in the league.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “I’m sure he [Solskjaer] wants to be more active in the transfer market again but he’s got a select group of players that he seems very happy with at the moment, who understand all of the ideas that he’s put into them in the training ground and it’s coming off in the games now.
“I think Cavani can’t be underplayed in what he’s adding in terms of a mentality more than anything.
“This guy knows how to win leagues, albeit not in this country but he’s committed, he’s very, very sure on how he knows how to win things given what he’s done at PSG.”
Greenwood has previously spoken about learning from Cavani, telling United’s official website back in December: “Anyone can learn from him, whether it is a young player or an older player.
“He has just come here and set an example, really. I like the things he does so I obviously pick up on the little things he does.
“I watch him in training and always have an eye on him, to see what movements he does, so I can add it to my game. So it is a big benefit that he is here at the club I think.
“You can see the two goals he scored against Southampton were just unbelievable. It was stuff he has been doing for 10 to 15 years at PSG and at Napoli as well, so he is a good footballer.”
