Rio Ferdinand claims he has sent Raphael Varane a text message to convince him to join Manchester United.
The Old Trafford club are keen on making a move for the French defender this summer with Real Madrid open to selling the 28-year-old.
Ole Gunnar Solskjear is looking to upgrade his options at centre-back to find a quality partner for England’s Harry Maguire.
Varane’s preference is to join United, according to The Independent, but Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running for his signature. The stopper is looking for a new challenge after a trophy-laden decade at Madrid.
This bodes well for the Red Devils, but obviously there is a long way to go until the deal gets over the finish line.

But former Man Utd defender Ferdinand has done his part to persuade Varane that Manchester is the best landing spot for him.
The pundit took part in an Instagram Q&A where he was asked by one follower if he could send Varane a message to help secure his services this summer.
And apparently, he has already done so.
Ferdinand replied: “Already have done. Agent Ferdy.”
Last week Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists the Spanish side have not received any official bids for Varane but it’s up to the player to directly tell the club he wants to leave them this summer.
He said: “We’ve not received any official bid for Raphael Varane. He’s at the Euros now then we will see what happens – if he wants to leave the club this summer, he’ll say it”.
United have already secured the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and they hope Varane will follow shortly after.
“They have a lot of forward options and Jadon Sancho will give them another option but Varane, if he does come in, will solidify the back four.
“He will give them extra strength, extra pace and somebody of his calibre is more suited to the Premier League.
“He’s big, he’s strong, he is quick and I definitely think the Varane one takes them closer to where they want to be.”
