Ricky Gervais' wish to be fed to lions after his death has been REJECTED

Ricky Gervais’ wish to be fed to lions after his death has been REJECTED by London Zoo because he’d be ‘too gristly’ for them

Ricky Gervais‘ wish to be fed to the lions at London Zoo after his death has been rejected by the organisation because he would be ‘too gristly’ for them.

The comedian, 59, recently declared his posthumous desire is to be fed to the zoo animals in order to ‘give something back’ to the animal community.

However the Chief Operating Officer of the zoo knocked back his kind offer and instead requested he send a cash donation to support the lions.

Kathryn England, Chief Operating Officer of ZSL London Zoo said: ‘I suspect Ricky may be a bit gristly for our lions.

‘But we are struggling financially because of lockdown so if anyone wants to ‘give something back’ we welcome donations that will help us keep our lions fed on a more suitable diet.’

Ricky previously revealed that he wants his body to be devoured by the animals at London Zoo so he can ‘give something back’ to nature.

Speaking on chat show Conan, Ricky explained: ‘It would be good to be fed to lions at London Zoo. It would be good to give something back. We eat animals and destroy habits and at least then I could give something back.’

The After Life star admits that the thought of visitors witnessing his corpse being eaten makes him chuckle.

Ricky joked: ‘It would be amusing to see the faces of tourists when this fat, naked dead body is thrown out and as it lands some people go ‘is that the bloke from ‘The Office?’ ‘

The star confessed that he ‘doesn’t care’ how he passes away but hopes to avoid an ’embarrassing’ death.

He said: ‘I’m resigned to it. We’re all going to die. I don’t care about being dead because I won’t know about it.

‘I don’t want to die alone or in agony and I don’t want to die an embarrassing death.’

Ricky plays the role of Tony Johnson in After Life as he struggles following the death of his wife. He feels that comics enjoy tackling the ‘last taboo’ of death in their material.

The Office star shared: ‘Comedians are drawn to death as it is the last taboo and makes people feel uncomfortable.

‘I like taking people to the dark side, it’s like taking them through a scary forest. No harm can come from going through taboo subjects.’

After Life has aired two series so far, with Ricky confirming last year there will be a third thanks to its popularity on Netflix.

The actor previously shared a glimpse of the script for the third series with the front page reading: ‘After Life 3, by Ricky Gervais, 2nd Draft’.

The series, which is entirely written and directed by Ricky, has received positive reviews since it debuted in March 2019.

Ricky has often ended his shows after two series but he previously hinted he had ideas for a third of After Life.

He told Digital Spy: ‘I don’t know about season three. But what I’ve said is, for the first time ever, I would do a season three, because the world [in the show] is so rich.

‘I love the characters. I love all the actors in it. I love my character. I love the town. I love the themes. I love the dog. So I would do a third one.

‘But it’s got to be a real – it’s got to be a real demanded-for encore. I’m not going to just do it.’
