Ricky Gervais pulled an epic prank on viewers of his recent live stream after he attempted to get their smart speakers to buy his album.

The actor and producer, 59, went live on Twitter over the weekend to speak to his fans, but mid-way through the stream, he played a trick on his followers.

Initially he kicked off by asking the various smart speakers that might be listening in to play a song by his famous character from The Office, David Brent.

He instructed through the screen: ‘Alexa, play David Brent: Life On The Road. Siri, play David Brent: Life On The Road.’

Taking it up a notch, he then burst into laughter as he instructed: ‘Alexa, buy David Brent: Life On The Road.’

One fan shared a video where Alexa replied: ‘Life On The Road by David Brent from Spotify’ as the tune began to play.

Ricky then asked Siri to buy the album as well as his book series Flanimals, as he snorted with laughter at his brilliant trick.

One fan, Paul Hamilton, shared the video of his Amazon device reacting to Ricky’s voice, joking: ‘I’ll send you the bill’.

Despite the video showing the song popping up on Spotify, Paul later added to another follower: ‘Yeah, I’ve got 3 copies courtesy of Ricky.’

The album was released in 2016 alongside a mockumentary comedy film catching up with the awkward office manager fans came to know and love on the UK version of The Office, which aired from 2001 until 2003.

David Brent: Life On The Road is still available to buy on Amazon for £4.89 and features 15 tracks including hits such as ‘Slough’ and ‘Thank F**k It’s Friday’.
