Resident Evil 3 remake release date is April 2020, comes with Project Resistance

Sony’s State of Play has officially announced Resident Evil 3 but it turns out it’s the campaign mode for multiplayer game Project Resistance.

Remember Project Resistance, that multiplayer Resident Evil spin-off that everyone was having trouble getting excited about? Well, it turns out it is interesting after all, because it’s being bundled together with the Resident Evil 3 remake.

The remake has been rumoured for a while now, especially after recent leaks on PSN, and was formally announced on Sony’s Nintendo Direct-esque State Of Play livestream.

It’ll be out on 3 April 2020 and, as you can see below, features Jill Valentine as the main playable character, as she attempts to escape Racoon City during its infamous zombie outbreak.

A lot of the trailer is in first person, which may or may not be indicative of the final game, but so far Capcom hasn’t offered many other details.

But the inclusion of Project Resistance, now referred to simply as Resident Evil Resistance, is an unexpected surprise and perhaps intended to compensate for the fact that Resident Evil 3 is generally regarded as the weakest of the original trilogy (although still generally very good).

Resident Evil Resistance is a 4 vs. 1 multiplayer game first unveiled earlier in the year, where four players cast as ordinary civilians try to escape from an Umbrella test facility directed by a fifth player controlling all the monsters and traps.

Pre-orders are up now, but the game is not a Sony exclusive and will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam at the same time next year.

There’s also a Collector’s Edition in the U.S. that come with a statute of Jill and classic in-game costumes for her and Carlos. It’s not clear if that will be available in the UK as well, but some variant of it surely will be.
