Reinvent your role, Sanwo-Olu tells internal auditors

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged internal auditors in the state to reinvent their role in the present age of computer and artificial intelligence.

Sanwo-Olu said this on Thursday during the 2021 National Conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors Nigeria with the theme, ‘Navigating Uncertainities,’ held in Lagos.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, was honoured with an Award by the IIA Nigeria in recognition of his transformation of the internal audit function in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said, “This administration considers auditors as strategic partners in the discharge of responsibilities to the public.

“The state government as an employer of labour had to re-engineer our service delivery model in the face of changes occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that our public service delivery systems remain top notch.

“There is the need for internal auditors to reinvent their role especially in the face of cloud computing where the data centre is outside the country and Artificial Intelligence is controlling operations.”

The Chief Executive Officer, IIA, Nigeria, Mr Humphrey Okorie, said, “The theme of the conference is strategically chosen to get members into the right frame of mind and set the ball rolling in proffering solutions for effectively navigating the many uncertainties in organisations or places of work professionally,” he said.
