Real Madrid have been dealt another defensive injury blow as they prepare to travel to Anfield for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Liverpool.
Los Blancos earned a commanding 3-1 aggregate advantage in Tuesday’s first leg, with Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio putting their careless visitors to the sword.
Zinedine Zidane was without first-choice defensive pairing Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane for the first leg, meaning Nacho and Eder Militao filled in at the back.
Captain Ramos will not recover from his calf injury in time for the second leg, while Varane’s involvement is also doubtful after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Adding to Real Madrid’s defensive injury woes, Lucas Vazquez looks likely to miss the trip to the Premier League champions.
Though he is a natural winger, the Spain international has spent the majority of the season at right-back due to Dani Carvajal’s ongoing injury woes.
Vazquez started the La Liga clash with arch-rivals Barcelona on Saturday night and was forced off just before half-time with a suspected knee problem following a challenge by Sergio Busquets.

The news of the 29-year-old’s injury leaves Zidane with a selection conundrum, and the Frenchman was downbeat despite his side’s 2-1 El Clasico victory – which sent them top of La Liga.
