Ray Parlour fears for Arsenal if Norwich score an early goal on Saturday and is concerned that the atmosphere will turn sour at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners go into the game against the Canaries under pressure after starting the new season with three successive Premier League defeats against newly-promoted Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.

The club, who spent more than £150m on six new recruits in the summer, have been hit by numerous illnesses and injuries to key players during the early weeks of the new campaign, but that hasn’t stopped the pressure mounting on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

Parlour believes that Arsenal need to start on the front foot tomorrow, otherwise they could be in for yet another tough day at the office.

If you were Norwich you’d get right at them for the first 15 minutes. If Norwich score first, it’s going to be a different atmosphere,’ he told TalkSPORT.

‘You can imagine the supporters getting on their backs. I hope it doesn’t happen because I really want them to do well but I’m worried that if Norwich do come out of the traps and get the first goal I’m worried that it’ll turn into an atmosphere which is not good to play in.’

Parlour thinks that the new signings will need time to adjust to their new surroundings, but fears that a defeat against Norwich will further intensify calls for Arteta to be sacked.

‘They’re well away from that top four at the moment, we all argued under Arsene Wenger that fourth place wasn’t good enough. They are coming eighth and ninth now which isn’t good enough. They’ve brought in new players, they’ve got to bed in the team. That is the big question [will Arteta get time],’ he added.

Arsenal are expected to welcome back key central defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White for Saturday’s match, with both having been missing in recent weeks due to injury and covid-19 respectively.

Star midfielder Thomas Partey could also return to the starting XI, after the Ghanian recovered from an ankle ligament injury he picked up during a pre-season game against Chelsea last month.
