Remarkably, Luiz was cleared to continue but blood quickly started to seep from the Brazilian’s head bandage.

Wolves took the lead through Pedro Neto, who slammed in from close-range on the half-hour mark.

However, Arsenal were level within two minutes when defender Gabriel headed home a powerful effort from a Willian cross.

The visitors regained the lead when Podence capitalised on a spill from Bernd Leno.

Luiz was then replaced at half-time by Rob Holding.
