Rangnick reflects on first win as Man Utd manager

The new era at Old Trafford is officially underway.

New boss Ralf Rengnick presided over a Manchester United side for the first time as the Red Devils overcame a stubborn Crystal Palace side to win 1-0 at Old Trafford in the German’s first match in charge.

Brazil midfielder Fred scored the only goal of the game in the 78th minute, curling a superb 20-yard shot beyond Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita in front of the Stretford End.

There had been question marks before the match as to whether star man Cristiano Ronaldo would be able to play effectively in Rangnick’s pressing system, but the United forward responded to those doubts brilliantly.

Rangnick made plenty of changes in his first game, and it also appears his first signing may be all but agreed.

Rangnick’s big changes

There were evident differences on display during United’s win over Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace as Ralf Rangnick too charge of Manchester United for the first time.

The fullbacks, frontline and even Ronaldo were all very different to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactical set-up, but one player definitely struggled to adapt.

Ronaldo praised

A number of critics had spoken about their doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s ability to perform under Rangnick’s high-press before the game.

But Ronaldo showed he was perfectly capable of playing within Rangnick’s system during United’s win over Crystal Palace.

And despite not managing to get himself on the scoresheet for once, the new United boss heaped praise on one aspect of Ronaldo’s game following the narrow victory.

Rangnick’s first transfer ‘agreed’

New United boss Ralf Rangnick has certainly got to work.

Not only were several changes evident during the Red Devils’ win over Crystal Palace, but it appears he’s already set up his first transfer into the club.

Rangnick has reportedly agreed a deal to bring in a midfielder he previously brought in to RB Leipzig as he aims to add power and presence to his United team.

And he’s looking to get the deal all wrapped up to secure the move in the upcoming January transfer window.
