PS5 DualSense controller works on PS4, PS3, and even Switch

Turns out there is a workaround to let you use the DualSense on PS4 (Pic: Sony)

With the PlayStation 5’s controller in the public’s hands, people have been testing it out on other consoles with surprising results.

Considering Sony’s focus on the next generation of gaming, it’s no surprise that the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller isn’t compatible with the PlayStation 4.

However, as it turns out, there is a workaround that can make it possible, as demonstrated by MidnightMan on YouTube.

Though the PS5 isn’t out yet, accessories like the DualSense are available in America and MidnightMan decided to see if it was possible to play PlayStation 4 games with the new controller.

After a couple of attempts, he discovered that it can be done but only by directly connecting the controller to a PC and using remote play, a feature that lets you stream PlayStation 4 games to your PC.

That’s not even the most surprising aspect of the video. Further testing revealed that the DualSense is compatible with the PlayStation 3, simply by connecting it to the console.

Another DualSense owner on Twitter even figured out a way to make it work for the Nintendo Switch, although that does require a third party adapter.

In terms of the existing DualShock 4, Sony has previously said that the PlayStation 4’s controller is compatible with the new console and can be used to play backwards compatible PlayStation 4 games, but not PlayStation 5 games.

The PlayStation 5 will launch in the UK on November 19.
