PS4 gamers could be getting a few surprise projects in the future which have yet to be fully unveiled by PlayStation.
Back in April 2019, fans spotted a few clues that pointed to the return of a fan-favourite franchise.
And more hints this week could point to the launch of a brand new Ape Escape project for PS4.
The first clues came when the official Ape Escape website was updated for the first time in many years, giving gamers hope of something new being announced.
According to those keeping an eye on events, this was the first time since 2011 that the Ape Escape website has seen any changes.
And now fans have spotted another Ape Escape clue online that could be teasing something big for later this year.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan’s verified Twitter is following a new account that has kickstarted the Ape Escape 20th Anniversary celebrations.
It appears that this will only extend to a new Ape Escape theme as a free PS4 download for now but it doesn’t rule out more announcements in the future.
And it’s a lot of noise being made for a franchise that has lain dormant for quite some time.
So there are still hopes for more news on the return of Ape Escape to consoles in the future.
So far nothing has been confirmed by Sony PlayStation, so all of this will remain speculation for now.
And there could be other secret game projects in the works that could be coming to PlayStation consoles in the future.
The Daily Star reported earlier in June that Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, had visited Finnish studio, Housemarque.
The company has revealed that they’re working on a new triple-A game, without providing any solid details on what it could be, or what platforms it could arrive on.
“Instead of shutting down we have made the jump to AAA development and are working on a new, unannounced IP,” a statement from the studio reads.
“This is the biggest and most ambitious game that Housemarque has ever worked on. Our team is approaching 70 people now, and we are still staffing up for the new project.
“But our commitment to keeping the spirit of arcade alive is stronger than ever, despite no longer working on straight arcade-inspired titles.”
There have been no suggestions that this new game will be exclusive to the PS4 but fans will be interested to find out what is coming next.
Sony also appears to be prepping a major PlayStation exclusive for the PS5. After the success of the God of War reimagining on PS4, it’s probably not a surprise to find out that Sony is planning a sequel.
And it looks like the sequel will be happening sooner rather than later, as fans discover an interesting job ad online. God of War studio Sony Santa Monica is hiring staff for what appears to be a new God of War game.
The PlayStation studio has posted job adverts for combat designers, programmers, narrative designers and more.
And the one phrase that stands out in all of the job adverts is that candidates “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies”.
Sony has also announced two new PlayStation Store sales, one covering the United States and the other focused on Europe. The new North America PS Plus Specials Sale is ongoing and includes some cracking titles for fans to check out.
As the name applies, these deals are available for PlayStation Plus members and will likely last over the coming week.
The complete season of Life is Strange 2 is available to purchase at a discount, alongside Conan Exiles, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition – Game of the Year Edition.
The new PS Plus sale also includes game bundles, so fans can also buy The Division 1 and 2, Watch Dogs 1 and 2 and Far Cry 3, 4 and 5.
According to the PlayStation Store listings, these deals will be available until July 9, so there’s plenty of time to check them out.
As mentioned above, there is also a new PlayStation Store sale going on in Europe, this time providing discounts for all users.
As the “Mega Discounts” name suggests, there are a lot of titles included which will run for the next two weeks.
“The PlayStation Store’s Mega Discounts launch today with a host of action-packed titles to choose from,” a message from Sony reads.
“Save up to 65% on the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Tales of Berseria and more until 10th July.”
These PS Store sales will be available at the same time as the new PS Plus July 2019 free games, which will be going live on Tuesday, July 2.
