The Kano police command says it has arrested 13 suspected thugs for vandalising the campaign office of Barau Jibrin, a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Abdullahi Haruna, spokesman of the command, announced the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
Jibrin, a senator representing Kano north district, belongs to the Kano APC faction loyal to Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of the state.
The building, which was razed, serves as the meeting point of the faction.
An eyewitness had said armed thugs invaded the building, vandalised it, and proceeded to set it ablaze.
Speaking on the arrest, Haruna said the suspects were arrested on the order of the Kano commissioner of police and that they will be investigated and prosecuted.
“Today, 02/12/2021 at about 0800hrs, a report was received that, thugs (Yan Daba) carrying dangerous weapons were sighted attacking and vandalising the office of Senator Barau Jibrin, Senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, along Maiduguri Road, Kano,” the statement reads.
“On the receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi, raised and instructed teams of Operation Puff Adder to move to the scene, restore normalcy and arrest the culprits.
“The teams immediately swung into action. Thirteen (13) suspected thugs (Yan Daba) were arrested and the following exhibits recovered from them: 34 Dangerous Weapons, 23 Clubs (Gora), 2 Gallons of Suspected PMS (Petrol), 1 Parcel and 30 Pieces of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp, 24 Sachets of Diazapam Tablets.”
Other items said to be recovered from the suspects are “4 Pieces of Red Sun Solution, 1 Mobile Phone, 2 Ceiling Fans, Bunch of Charms”.
“Normalcy was immediately restored and situation under control. Investigation has commenced and suspects will be charged to court for prosecution,” the police spokesman added.
