Piers Morgan has hit out at Manchester City’s Kyle Walker after he allegedly hosted a sex party with two escorts despite the country being in lockdown.
The coronavirus pandemic has put the Premier League season on hold but the right-back is believed to have flouted the government’s guidelines.
Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish was recently seen out of his home shortly after he had issued a plea to fans to remain indoors.
And Good Morning Britain presenter Morgan has criticised the Premier League stars.
He said: “Footballers are posting rousing messages to the country saying stay indoors, don’t do anything stupid, be a good citizen.
“Within literally a day [Walker] has hired two escorts to come to his home with his friend for a party. What could be more reckless than that?
“Like the chief medical officer [in Scotland] it’s disgusting hypocrisy, its unbelievably selfish and reckless.”
Walker, who split from long-term partner Annie Kilner earlier this year, has since issued an apology.
He said: “I want to take this opportunity to issue a public apology for the choices I made last week.
“I understand that my position as a professional footballer brings the responsibility of being a role model.
“As such, I want to apologise to my family, friends, football club, supporters and the public for letting them down.
“There are heroes out there making a vital difference to society at the moment, and I have been keen to help support and highlight their amazing sacrifices and life-saving work over the past week. My actions are in direct contrast to what I should have been doing regarding the lockdown.”
While his club, with whom Walker has won eight honours, have said they will be investigating the matter.
A statement read: “We are disappointed to hear the allegations, note Kyle’s swift statement and apology, and will be conducting an internal disciplinary procedure in the coming days.”
