Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could soon be offered an exit route after falling out of favour with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gabon forward hasn’t featured for Arsenal in more than a month, and was stripped of the captain’s armband after a disciplinary breach.

Aubameyang is currently away with his country at the Africa Cup of Nations, though he missed Gabon’s first game after a positive Covid test, and he sent a message to Arteta by being photographed in an Arsenal shirt while out in Cameroon.

It might not be enough to prolong his stay in north London, though, with new reports suggesting Juventus could make a move for the former Borussia Dortmund striker before the January transfer window comes to a close.

According to Tuttomercato (via The Sun), Juve are intent on adding Aubameyang to their ranks after losing Federico Chiesa to a long-term injury.

Chiesa suffered a knee injury in the recent Serie A victory over Roma, and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after the club’s medical staff confirmed damage had been done to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Juventus currently sit just outside the Champions League spots, and the reports suggest they are keen to add firepower after losing their star midfield man.

The reports come as Arsenal themselves continue to be linked with a current member of Juventus’ squad.

Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo has been out of favour in Turin, seeing his opportunities limited under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Arsenal are thought to be keen on a loan move, with the deal drawing closer this week, though it may still depend on the Italian side securing reinforcements of their own.

Arsenal have already let one forward leave the Emirates Stadium this month, with Folarin Balogun moving on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough for the remainder of the season.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract in the summer, leaving Arteta’s side looking rather thin on the ground if Aubameyang is shipped off in January.

Aubameyang’s most recent minutes in an Arsenal shirt came as a substitute in the December 6 defeat at Everton, and he was left out of the squad for a number of games before travelling to AFCON.

A number of forwards have been linked with the club, whether or not the Gabon forward remains on their books, including Fiorentina frontman Dusan Vlahovic and Ligue 1 top scorer Jonathan David..

When asked about the Gunners’ transfer plans, Arteta said: “Historically this club has always been interested in the best players in the world and the best players have been interested in coming here, I can tell you that situation hasn’t changed.”
