Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to come back stronger after his underwhelming display for Arsenal at Manchester United.

The Gabon international passed up a good opportunity to level the contest after United had taken a 3-2 lead through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty with David de Gea comfortable saving his effort.

With 11 minutes of the game left and with Arsenal still putting the hosts under pressure, Mikel Arteta opted to replace his captain with Alexandre Lacazette replacing him late on.

That decision was questioned by club legend Thierry Henry who suggested ‘something is not right’ between Aubameyang and his manager.

But the striker has already shifted focus to Monday night’s clash with Everton.

‘Disappointing night – and I’m always checking myself first,’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘Gotta keep the work rate high and re-focus on Monday, we never give up!’

Arteta was left to reflect on a missed opportunity against United but did single out the performance of Gabriel Martinelli, who was a constant goal threat at Old Trafford and set up the chance Aubameyang spurned in the second-half.

‘He looked a threat,’ Arteta said of Martinelli. ‘He had a big chance in the first half, and he probably should have played on.

‘He created assists, he worked extremely hard, and he had some really good moments – he looked a threat.’
