Petr Cech insists he is ‘100 per cent ready’ to help Chelsea if required after being named in the club’s Premier League squad.

Cech, who won four Premier League titles and the Champions League at Stamford Bridge, was a surprise inclusion in Chelsea’s 25-man squad for the 2020-21 season.

The 38-year-old announced his retirement at the end of the 2018-19 season and returned to Chelsea as a technical and performance advisor.

However, he has been training with first-team goalkeepers Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga in recent weeks and says he is ‘ready’ to help Chelsea if called upon this season.

The legendary goalkeeper told Telefoot: ‘It’s true that it would have been a professional error to do this if I wasn’t at Premier League level, but that’s not the way we work here.

‘I know I’m 100 per cent ready to help if needs be. I’m fit, and with the two months of training, I’ve seen I have the same quality.

‘Furthermore, I rested for a year without playing football. It really gave me energy, my body recovered after playing 20 years as a professional.

‘If the circumstances put me on the pitch, I’m ready.’

Chelsea record signing Arrizabalaga has endured a miserable spell at Stamford Bridge and lost his place in the team to new signing Mendy.

French shot-stopper Mendy has kept five successive clean sheets since joining Chelsea from Rennes and does not expect Cech to make a stunning return and actually feature for the club this season.

‘In terms of him playing, I think we already have three very good, competitive goalkeepers and that should be enough for us,’ Mendy said recently.

‘It’s just an absolute pleasure to be with him every day.

‘To work with him and particularly in training it allows me to watch how he works and to analyse his game. So it’s a wonderful bonus for me being here.’
