Peter Crouch pinpoints one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest problems as Manchester United manager

Peter Crouch believes that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is more susceptible to criticism due to his lack of top managerial experience.

Solskjaer’s United team pulled off a remarkable second-half comeback to beat Italian club Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

After finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time, goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game around, slightly easing the pressure on the Norwegian boss following a miserable run of four defeats in seven games.

Speaking after the turnaround, former Premier League striker Crouch thinks that Solskjaer will always be the scapegoat when United don’t play well.

‘Ole’s issue is Thomas Tuchel, [Pep] Guardiola and [Jurgen] Klopp. Manchester United’s fans are looking at those three managers, the trophies they’ve won, their CV’S of winning trophies and Champions Leagues,’ he told BT Sport.

‘With all due respect to Ole, he’s come from Cardiff and Molde, not the same experience and he’s managing a club of Man Utd’s stature and the club doesn’t have a manager that falls into the category that those clubs have.

‘When they lose or look tactically inept, it always full back into the scenario of how he got the job in the first place and then looking enviably at the rest of the teams who are the best three teams in the league.

‘United do have a squad that can compete with these teams, but they’re not and what is the reason for that? And that is the reason we keep going back to the manager.’

The Red Devils will be looking to continue their momentum when they host second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
