When Leroy Sane picked up his potentially season-ending injury for Manchester City , it handed a huge blow to manager Pep Guardiola.
The 23-year-old forward damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during City’s Community Shield win over Liverpool last month, with the German facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
He has since undergone surgery and has started his long road to recovery, but the initial feeling is that he may not play for the reigning Premier League champions this season.
It is suggested that the former Barca boss wasn’t keen on signing the playmaker, who has since joined German giants Bayern Munich on loan.
Ironically, the Bundesliga heavyweights were strongly linked with a big-money move for Sane before he picked up his injury in the English curtain-raiser.
Sane, 23, emerged as one of Bayern’s top targets this summer, with the German champions looking to add wingers to their ranks following the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
However, a return to his home country looked as though it might be off the cards after he was injured during City’s Community Shield win over Liverpool at the start of August.
City boss Pep Guardiola initially suggested the winger could miss six to seven months and he recently underwent surgery on the issue.
However, the prospect of a long injury lay-off does not appear to have put off Bayern as Niko Kovac looks to add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday.
It is understood Bayern will revisit a potential move for the talented winger when the transfer window reopens, though a move next summer is more likely.
