Pep Guardiola admits Real Madrid approach for Raheem Sterling would make him "tremble"

Pep Guardiola has admitted clubs outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona must “tremble” when the Clasico duo come knocking at the door for their players.

Raheem Sterling lavished praise on Los Blancos while giving an interview to Spanish publication to AS, hailing Real as a ‘fantastic club’.

And while insisting Sterling’s commitment remains unchanged, Guardiola admitted that his former side Barca and their fiercest rivals are the world’s most powerful clubs.

“All the clubs have to know that when Real Madrid or Barcelona knock on the door, the other clubs must tremble,” said Guardiola. “That they will be a little bit in trouble.

“Barcelona and Real are maybe the strongest and most powerful teams in terms of history and how good they are. That’s normal and I understand completely.

Pep has responded to Sterling’s comments

“But, on the same point, you see the commitment from Raheem, every single day when he arrives.

“His commitment in every game, offensively and defensively, so he’s one of the best players in the world and it’s normal that big clubs see his desire.

“I don’t know if Madrid or Barcelona call his agent, but I don’t have any doubts about his commitment from the first day to the last day that Raheem and other ones have had – and will have – until the end.”

Sterling was pictured draped in a Real shirt for the interview, with City set to face the Spanish giants in the Champions League next week.

The Blues have been banned from European competition for the next two seasons, pending an appeal, which has led to some of their biggest stars being linked with a move away.

When questioned over potentially playing for Real, Sterling said: “How do I answer that one? Is the camera live or is it just taking pictures?

“No-one knows what the future will hold. I’m a player and I’m always open to challenges, but right now my challenge is at City and I’m really happy.

“I have a contract with City now and I have to respect this.

“Real Madrid are a fantastic club. When you see the white shirt you know exactly what the club stands for, it’s massive.”

Sterling also hailed Real boss Zinedine Zidane, for leading them to three straight Champions League triumphs.

“I think to win the Champions League so many times, especially in a row as well, is very difficult,” said Sterling.

“I don’t think that’s luck, it’s definitely a formula. Some people have that winning mentality and he wins by any means.”
