Paul Pogba can be ‘game-changer’ and Bruno Fernandes blip is ‘normal’, says Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov believes Paul Pogba can become Manchester United’s regular ‘game-changer’ if he continues in his rich vein of form.

The French World Cup winner was said to be ‘unhappy’ at Old Trafford and heading towards the exit door by his agent Mino Raiola in December.

But instead of Raiola’s comments derailing his season, Pogba has turned in a number of marvellous displays in recent weeks to help transform United into serious title challengers.

The 27-year-old once again proved his worth with a stunning winner as the Red Devils beat Fulham 2-1 to move top of the table on Wednesday night.

And Berbatov has been impressed by the midfielder’s body language of late and believes he has the required qualities to regularly be the difference-maker for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The former United striker told Betfair: ‘Back in December, his agent said he was unhappy and there was talk of him leaving, look at him now!

‘I see someone enjoying his football, scoring goals and intercepting the ball. He looks happy playing for the team. Maybe in December there were other factors, maybe it was an injury or other factors. However, for now, if he continues like this with the game he is showing, the quality is there to be a game changer.

‘He is playing for one of the biggest teams in the world and is one of the game’s biggest stars. He must be happy because his body language looks like he is happy, fit and healthy. That is great for him and the team. He looks happy most of the time. Sometimes critics can affect you and your performance, but at the moment, he should be happy with himself.

‘His qualities are game changing when the team needs them.

Bruno Fernandes quickly estblished himself as United’s talisman upon his arrival from Sporting Lisbon last January.

But although the midfielder has struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks, Berbatov sees no cause for concern.

‘People are going to go through phases,’ he added. ‘Since Bruno came to United, he has always been great, either scoring or assisting. At one moment you will have a dip in form, it is normal to have this. The important thing is when you have that bad game that someone else steps up like Pogba did against Fulham.

‘If you are having a bad game, you need your teammates to step up and that is the good thing about having good players. You are going to have a few bad games in your season, but it is not something to be concerned about.’
