Ozil was left out the squads by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and he has not made an appearance since March.
In response, the 2014 World Cup winner said the club had not shown him the loyalty he gave when he signed a new contract in 2018, which made him the highest-paid player at the Emirates.
Since then, Ozil performances on the pitch have dropped markedly and Arteta has chosen to take the team in a different direction without a recognised No 10.
This week, Arteta insisted the decision was based on football reasons saying: “It was just a football decision and my conscience is very calm because I have been really fair with him.
“My level of communication with him has been high, we know what to expect with each other.
“He has had the opportunities like everybody else. I’m sad that I had to leave three players out of this list but I tried to look everybody in the eye and be comfortable with it.”

But Merson believes otherwise and can’t understand why Ozil is not in the Arsenal team.
“I can’t see how it’s for footballing reasons,” Gunners hero Merson told Sky Sports. “The lad is too talented, too good.
“For him not to get a place in this Arsenal team, it must be more than just football.
“He can make things happen. He was in Arteta’s team before the lockdown and everything went through him. He’s a special player and it’s a shame we won’t see him now.”
