Paul Merson has advised Jude Bellingham to reject a transfer to the Premier League, amid reported interest from Chelsea.

Bellingham, 17, was in superb form in both legs of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-finals defeat at the hands of Manchester City and Merson, the former Arsenal star, says he would ‘walk into most Premier League teams.

Reports claim Chelsea are ready to abandon their interest in Declan Rice in order to pursue a move for the teenager, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described him as ‘so good for 17 years old!’

But Merson thinks Bellingham, the former Birmingham City youngster, shouldn’t rush towards the bright lights of the Premier League and is better served by staying with Dortmund for the time being.

‘Jude Bellingham would walk into most Premier League teams because he’s a Rolls Royce footballer,’ Merson wrote in his Daily Star column.

‘But the top six missed a trick by letting him go to Germany and they must be kicking themselves now.

‘Bellingham would walk into the Manchester City, Liverpool or Manchester United teams. He would rip it up at Arsenal or Tottenham.

‘But he should stay at Borussia Dortmund because they believe in him and he is playing every week. He’s in a good place.

‘I was blown away watching him against City. He knew everywhere to go. His game management was phenomenal.

‘It was like seeing an old head on young shoulders because to do what he’s doing at 17 is extraordinary really.’
