Paige Turley expected week of sunbathing on Love Island before finding love

Paige Turley has revealed that she initially signed up for Love Island to get a sun tan for a week – before going on to win the show after hooking up with boyfriend Finn Tapp in the villa.

The 23-year-old from West Lothian became the first Scots contestant to win the popular ITV2 show during the winter edition in 2019.

Viewers fell in love with the couple as their relationship grew rapidly from the moment their first date ended.

Finn, 21, even went on to pop Paige the big question of asking her to be his girlfriend during their time in South Africa.

And it was a little bit more than what they bargained for, as they both never expected to find love on the show.

The pair spoke to Lorraine Kelly on her morning daytime TV slot from their home in Manchester – where they moved in together just months into their relationship.

Paige said: “I kind’ve expected to go on, get a sun tan for about a week, maybe date a couple of guys and that would be it.

“But obviously I went on and met Finn and we ended up going on to win it. So it was definitely not what I had thought when I was going in there.”

Finn agreed with his partner and described their growth of their relationship as “crazy”.

He added: “Not in a million years did I think I would actually find someone.

“There’s five guys and five girls that start off and there’s always going to be dates here and there, but you never expect that you’ll find the one that you’d move in with two or three months down the line.

“It was crazy.”

After a whirlwind year of getting to know one another very well during the coronavirus pandemic, the couple said that they’re only just getting around to going on first dates with one another.

Paige described their relationship as going “in reverse”.

“It’s been very accelerated”, she said.

“We met each other then within a couple of hours we were sharing a bed, Then once we left the island, we very quickly moved in together, so it’s like we’re doing everything in reverse. Now we’re only starting to go out and have our first dates.”

The couple spoke to Lorraine ahead of the new series, which kicks off on ITV2 at 9pm this evening – around 18 months after Paige and Finn took home the Love Island crown.

Scots glamour model turned influencer Shannon Singh is among the contestants taking part in this year’s series.

And Paige had some advice for the group entering the Majorca villa this evening.

She said: “I would say forget about the outside world, and I think they will after some time.

“But initially going in there you question how you’re being perceived and what happens if no one picks me.

“Just go in, do your thing and have fun and whatever happens in the outside world is going to happen.”
