And Lauren isn’t the only Outlander to star in the new cast, as she will be joined by Gary Lewis, who plays Collum McDougall.

And Outlander fans couldn’t wait to see her star in something outside the 18th century show.

While one penned: “Totally different then Marsali.”

And another said: “This looks so good! What a great cast your with. Congratulations.”

The series created by the those responsible for Richard Madden’s The Bodyguard sees the police battling it out with the Navy and the British security services following the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler.

Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie and Shaun Evans are also amongst the cast sheet.

It also sees them investigating a suspicious death on-board the HMS Vigil.

The drama was directed by Bafta-winner James Strong, and Isabelle Sieb, and features lots of locations in Scotland including Glasgow’s Squinty Bridge, Blythswood Square and west end.

And Vigil is not the only thing Lauren will be starring in, as she is set to play Karen Pirie in ITV cold case murder drama, based on author Val McDermid’s novel The Distant Echo.
