Outlander fans delighted as seventh series of the show is confirmed by cast

Today Outlander fans were jumping for joy as the cast confirmed that they would be returning for a seventh season of the popular show.

The cast, which includes Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, made a video on the official Outlander Instagram page to ‘end the speculation’ on whether the show would be returning after the sixth season.

In the video, the four actors can be seen reading out questions from fans all with the same subject matter.

Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, read out a question from his on-screen wife Caitriona Balfe.

He read out: “@CaitrionaBalfe Am I coming back to work next year and can I have a bigger trailer?”

Looking amused, Sam then added: “I’m afraid Caitriona no you can’t have a bigger trailer, however, you are coming back for season seven! Yes!'”

And the news sent fans wild as they took to the comments to express their delight.

One said: “Looking forward to every bit of Outlander that is to come!”

Caitriona Balfe thanked fans for their support

While one penned: “This is the news I needed today! Thank you everyone @outlander_starz, I’m looking forward to it”

And another added: “Omg omg omg literally jumping for joy right now!!! I am so excited and this just made my entire day, month and year so much better knowing we have a season 7 in the future!”

Filming for the sixth season is currently in full swing.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the filming for season six had to be delayed but the crew are back and taking extra precautions on set.

Sam spoke about how that’s changed things for cast on This Morning.

Richard Rankin plays Roger Mac in the series

Sam said: “We started in January and it’s going well obviously it’s been tough with Covid protocols but also the weather in Scotland has been pretty horrendous. The snow has been bad but it feels like the spring is finally here, there is hope around the corner!”

A big part of the process will be a rigorous testing regime with the show’s bosses spending more than £150,000 building a private Covid testing centre at their Scottish studios.

The news of the seventh series will come at an exciting time for those who love the series, with season six on its way, author Diana Gabaldon currently writing book nine (Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone) and Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish starring in travel show Men in Kilts.
