Orlando Bloom praises the NHS for saving his life when he fell from a third floor window aged 20 and broke his back as he urges people to stay home

Orlando Bloom has praised the NHS for saving his life when he broke his back.

The actor, 43, revealed that the health service rushed to his aid when he fell from a third floor window aged 20, as he highlighted his support for the National Health Service.  

Orlando urged his 3.8 million Instagram followers to show their own support for doctors and nurses in the UK by keeping safe and staying at home.

The star was a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama when he fell and broke his back in 1998, threatening his acting dreams.  

Despite fears he would be permanently paralysed, he went on to make a quick recovery thanks to the efforts of the NHS staff.

His post read: ‘The NHS saved my life when I was 20 after I fell from a 3rd floor window and broke my back.

‘Having lived in the US for nearly 20 years now it’s one of the public services from home I respect the most.’

Alongside the post he shared a clip of the the blue NHS logo and the words don’t send our NHS backwards, which transform into Stay Home Now.

Orlando’s post comes just hours after his fiancee Katy Perry took to social media on Friday evening to reveal the gender of their first child.

‘It’s a girl,’ captioned the 35-year-old singer, who shared a photograph of Orlando with his face covered in pink toned whipped cream.

In early March, Katy confirmed her pregnancy when she cradled her growing baby bump at the end of her music video for her latest single Never Worn White.

During her performance at the Women’s Cricket World Cup Final in Melbourne, Australia on March 8, Katy admitted that she was hoping to have a girl.

The Teenage Dream songstress, who got engaged to Orlando on Valentine’s Day in 2019, is expected to give birth to their daughter in the summer.

This will be Perry’s first child, but Orlando’s second, being that he shares nine-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
