Olivier Giroud 'agrees to leave Chelsea' with two more stars nearing the exit

Olivier Giroud will end the speculation over his future by leaving Chelsea for AC Milan this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Giroud, 34, has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent seasons and came close to joining Inter Milan last year.

But the Frenchman ended up staying in west London and scored 11 goals in all competitions as the Blues lifted the Champions League last campaign.

Chelsea subsequently activated a clause to extend Giroud’s contract for another season so they do not lose the veteran striker for free.

Nonetheless, it seems likely he could still depart this summer.

Rather than join Inter, however, Giroud has agreed a two-year contract with San Siro rivals AC Milan worth €3.5million (£3m) per year plus bonuses.

That’s according to Sky Sport Italia , which claims Milan are yet to agree a fee with Chelsea and hope the Blues may let Giroud leave for free in order to trim their wage bill.

The report adds Chelsea are willing to sell winger Hakim Ziyech and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to Milan.

The Blues signed Ziyech from Ajax for £36.6million last season but he struggled to make an impression during his debut Premier League season.

The Morocco international scored just two top-flight goals and does not appear to be a part of manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Milan are believed to view Ziyech as an ideal replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, who joined Inter on a free transfer on Tuesday.

Bakayoko, meanwhile, is regarded as one of Chelsea’s worst transfers in recent years after failing to live up to his £40million price tag.

The Frenchman has been shipped out on loan to Milan and former club Monaco, and spent the last season with Napoli.

Milan have continued to monitor Bakayoko and may look to sign him as part of a double or triple raid on Chelsea, with Giroud their primary target.

Earlier this week, Giroud insisted he has plenty left to offer even though he is turning 35 in September.

“I’m not finished, far from it,” he told French outlet Le Figaro . “Count on me, grandpa is not dead! I’m almost 35 but have the hunger of a 20-year-old guy.”

Giroud is currently competing with France at Euro 2020, with his only involvement so far off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Hungary last Saturday.

The former Arsenal striker added: “The France team has a fairly incredible strike force, but I have a card to play because there are no other players with my profile.

“I am here to respond and bring what I want. I know how to do it with the team. I have the desire and, if the young people want to move me, they will have to be ready too.”
